Educational Assistant - Summer School (3 positions) INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

Job Summary: Under the supervision and direction of a licensed staff member, assist summer school staff in providing a positive learning experience for students; facilitate skill acquisition in academics, social, self‑help, and motor areas; maintain educational records; provide liaison services with parents; provide for personal needs of children; supervise students as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of grades 6‑8 curriculum; understanding of the experiences, working and living conditions, language and culture of the migrant society.
  • Skilled in basic computer programs (word processing and spreadsheets).
  • Ability to maintain accurate records; work with a diverse population of students and parents; flexible and willing to do a variety of jobs to meet deadlines and complete all required training.
  • Experience with middle school students preferred.
  • Education:

    Two years of college, associate's degree or passing score on a para‑professional exam in reading, writing and math as required by federal law.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with teachers, principals, students, and patrons to support student learning in the classroom.
  • Translate oral and written district documents, letters, and instructional needs to parents, students, and patrons of the Newberg School District.
  • Provide interpreter services for staff, students and families.
  • Maintain confidentiality about students and programs.
  • Work in partnership with program staff to enhance communication and maximize services to students and families.
  • Provide mediation, problem solving, and conflict resolution to individuals and small groups when necessary.
  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Work harmoniously with others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Job Requirements:

    • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
    • Language

      Skills:

      Ability to read English and other designated languages up to grade 12; write clear communications in English and other languages as required.
    • Mathematical

      Skills:

      Ability to perform basic calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Reasoning Ability:
      Work collaboratively and establish effective relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.
    • Other

      Skills and Abilities:

      Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.
    • Physical Demands:
      Frequent walking and standing; bending or twisting at the neck and trunk; occasional reach with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; able to lift/move up to 40 lbs.
    • Work Environment:
      Classroom environment in close proximity to students and other adults; may encounter students with emotional problems or hostile attitudes; use of telephone, computer, other office equipment; ability to drive to other program sites and meetings.

    Terms of Employment: Temporary position when summer school is in session.

    • Salary Range: $19.87 - $24.43 per hour (2025‑26 schedule). 6% PERS contribution, generous insurance cap, long‑term disability insurance, optional life, AD&D, short‑term disability, tax shelter annuities, Section 125 health and dependent care accounts, employee assistance program.
