Job DescriptionJob Summary: Provide classroom targeted instruction for migrant and Title I and LEP students in language arts, math, and/or science.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of — specific curriculum content for subject areas being taught.
- Understanding of social and cultural issues affecting migrant students and their families, and students and families experiencing poverty.
- Skilled in lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels.
- Ability to demonstrate classroom organization and behavior management; communicate orally and in writing and build relationships with students, parents, and staff. Ability to communicate with Spanish‑speaking students and parents preferred.
- Experience — successful experience teaching migrant, Title I, and Title III students. ESOL endorsement, technology skills, and GLAD and/or other sheltered instruction training. Spanish proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking. Preference given to bilingual candidates.
- Education — completion of a higher education Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in education/teaching.
- Certification Required — a valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with proper K-5 endorsement.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times as designated.
- Plan a program of study that meets the interests, needs, and abilities of the students and follow the established curriculum as written by the district and the state.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of the students.
- Cooperate with other members of the staff.
- Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by law and district policy.
- Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Analyze student performance test results and create GLAD and/or ELD strategies with support from colleagues and director, working in PLCs.
- Prepare student presentation for closing ceremony.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Language Skills — Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lesson plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English. Ability to effectively present information in one‑to‑one and small group situations.
Mathematical Skills — Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
Reasoning Ability — Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
