Job SummaryDesign and instruct curriculum in all academic areas to meet the needs of a diverse class of elementary students. Provide instruction in both English and Spanish. Bilingual required.
QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of specific curriculum content for subject area.
- Skilled in lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing and build relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents preferred.
- Preference given to candidates with successful experience in teaching Spanish and English.
- Strong desire to create a powerful dual language program.
- Ability to co‑teach and collaborate across middle school and elementary Dual Language PLCs; trained in GLAD or Constructive Meaning strategies.
- Ability to do some curriculum mapping during summer.
Experience: Experience preferred but not required.
Education: Completion of a higher education bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in education/teaching.
Certification
Required:
A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission for middle school with science endorsement.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the designated locations and times.
- Plan a program of study that meets the interests, needs, and abilities of the students and follows established curriculum as written by the district and the state.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral progress.
- Cooperate with other members of the staff.
- Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain records required by law and district policy.
- Take reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.

Skills:
Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language; write memoranda, correspondence, lesson plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English; present information effectively in one‑to‑one and small group settings. Bilingual preferred. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy. - Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English; deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Skills and Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish; thorough knowledge of science and incorporating writing skills for both languages; knowledge of appropriate practices for teaching multilingual students; strong classroom management; data driven with project‑based learning strategies; ability to collaborate with co‑workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community; desire and skill to work closely with other middle school science teachers as part of a professional learning community;
willingness to support the Dual Language program.
The employee must be able to walk frequently, stand, bend or twist at the neck and trunk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl occasionally, use hand strength to grasp tools, lift or move up to 10 pounds, sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.
