Due to a pending retirement along with sustained growth in the company, my extremely well run Machinery OEM client in Newberg seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join the design engineering team. This particular role will directly support their growing Orbital Welding Machinery product lines, which are deployed worldwide in a wide variety of applications (data centers, nuclear energy, shipbuilding, wind turbines, oil & gas, etc).
Qualified candidates should have a Mechanical Engineering Degree along with at least 2 + years of hands on Design Engineering experience in a Machine Building or Industrial Product manufacturing environment. Some understanding of welding process is desirable to understand the applications for machinery being designed and deployed. Excellent benefits along with a fun and collaborative environment. A Hybrid work policy is in place with the expectations that engineers will be onsite 3 days per week
- Lead and support research and development projects, from concept generation to prototype build and testing.
- Identify, design, and implement product improvements to enhance reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
- Create and maintain detailed 3D models Solidworks) and engineering drawings in accordance with internal standards.
- Partner with the internal machine shop and production teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and optimized for manufacturability.
- Conduct design reviews, tolerance analyses, and root cause investigations for product issues.
- Support engineering change requests (ECRs) and documentation updates through internal PLM/ERP systems.
- Support legacy product design upgrades, to include tolerance reviews and updating older CAD drawings (from a variety of programs) to Solidworks.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, Operations, and Quality to ensure successful implementation of design changes and new product introductions.
- Assist in vendor communication and component selection.
- Support Product Issues in the field by performing root cause analysis and executing the proper corrective action.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical design with machinery and/or industrial products
- Proficiency with CAD software (solidworks preferred) and mechanical drawing standards.
- Proficiency with product data management software and best practices
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, assembly, etc.) and GD&T principles.
- Experience in Welding Process strongly preferred. This could include hobbyist welding, welding in college, or design for manufacturability for weldments. Understanding of Welding code an added plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Strong communication skills needed to collaborative with customers on custom project understanding and execution
