Position: CNC Programmer I - Dental Furniture Machining

Overview

The CNC Programmer I position supports the development of CNC programs for standard production runs and assists with both simple and complex parts, including prototypes and custom orders during new product development, using CAD, CAM, and related software. The role receives structured training and close mentorship from experienced team members.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with programming using engineering CAD files of new or revised designs, including standard production parts and first‑run prototypes.
  • Revise and update CNC programs based on operator feedback and reviews.
  • Follow file‑saving protocols and maintain accurate program version control.
  • Research tooling technology and participate in quality testing.
  • Assist in selecting CNC supplies and tooling, and maintain CAD, CAM, and Inventor files for special tooling under supervision.
  • Prepare production documentation to guide CNC setup and operation.
  • Ensure that engineering revisions are up to date and follow departmental policies; learn how documentation supports manufacturing success.
  • Provide introductory assistance in training CNC operators and woodworkers on hardware and software usage.
  • Collaborate with tooling, maintenance, manufacturing engineers, ME techs, and other programmers to develop methods, diagnose machine or fixture issues, and contribute ideas for Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
  • Maintain quality and productivity standards, demonstrate reliability, and consistently follow safety guidelines.
  • Assist with process, program, tooling, and/or fixturing enhancements.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of CAM software to produce usable code for the required machinery and application.
  • Experience with advanced machining and fabrication tasks, including first‑article inspection.
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints, rough sketches, CAD/CATIA, and Inventor files.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T to develop programs and related documentation, where applicable.
  • Proficiency in complex programming math calculations and understanding of decimal/fraction equivalence, geometry, and related concepts.
  • Strong problem‑solving behaviors focused on permanent resolutions.
  • Collaborative mindset to work with others in work groups and achieve goals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective time and resource management skills.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Typically requires 2+ years of machine center and/or CNC machine operation experience.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds on a routine basis and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity required to grasp and operate tools and equipment repetitively. Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Exposure to chemicals, noise, vibration, or dust is possible;

appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, and respiratory protection, may be required. Compliance with OSHA respirator use requirements is necessary.
