Seamstress/Tailor

Newberg, OR Starting at $19.00 per hour Full-Time | In-Person Express Employment Professionals

Express Employment Professionals is currently recruiting for a skilled Seamstress/Tailor on behalf of one of our valued clients in Newberg, Oregon. We are seeking a detail-oriented professional with strong sewing, pattern-making, and upholstery skills who takes pride in producing high-quality craftsmanship.

This position is ideal for someone with professional sewing or alteration experience who enjoys working with a variety of fabrics and creating custom solutions to meet customer and production needs.

Position Summary

The Seamstress/Tailor will be responsible for producing, repairing, and altering upholstery and fabric products according to customer and production specifications. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of garment construction, pattern interpretation, fabric handling, and quality standards.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities Garment Construction & Alterations
  • Sew, assemble, and finish garments or upholstery products according to specifications.
  • Perform alterations, repairs, and adjustments as needed.
  • Work with a variety of materials, including delicate, heavy-duty, and specialty fabrics.
  • Ensure all finished products meet quality and craftsmanship standards.
Pattern Work & Fabric Cutting
  • Read and interpret patterns, sketches, and design specifications.
  • Draft, adjust, and modify patterns to accommodate custom sizing and design changes.
  • Measure and cut fabric accurately to minimize waste and maintain quality standards.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
  • Operate sewing machines and other textile-related equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance.
Customer & Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with designers, production teams, and customers to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Provide recommendations regarding design adjustments and fabric performance.
  • Support production deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven experience as a Seamstress, Tailor, Upholstery Sewer, or similar role.
  • Proficiency in both hand sewing and machine sewing techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, fabric types, and pattern-making.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and pattern adjustments.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Formal training in sewing, fashion design, textiles, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional sewing or alteration experience required.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while sewing.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift fabric rolls, materials, or garment bundles weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in a production or manufacturing environment.
Preferred Additional Skills

The following skills are a plus but not required:

  • Embroidery or decorative stitching experience.
  • Costume or theatrical garment construction experience.
  • Familiarity with digital sewing patterns or CAD software for fashion and textiles.
Compensation
  • Starting at $19.00 per hour or more DOE
