Job Description & How to Apply Below

Equine Associate Veterinarian
Oakhurst Equine Veterinary Services | Newberg, Oregon
We’re looking for an equine veterinarian who wants to do more than fill a position.

Oakhurst Equine Veterinary Services is an established, busy equine practice in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. We have a strong client base, a diverse caseload, experienced veterinarians, and a lot of opportunity ahead of us.

We’re looking for the right veterinarian to become part of that future.

And we’re interested in what you can bring to Oakhurst—not just what Oakhurst can do for you.

  • What do you do particularly well?
  • What area of equine medicine do you want to develop?
  • What have you seen other practices do well—or poorly—that you would like to improve?
  • What ideas do you have for making a veterinary practice better for its doctors, staff, clients, and patients?

If you’re the kind of veterinarian who notices things, asks questions, takes ownership, and thinks “there has to be a better way to do this,” we want to talk with you.

What You Could Bring to Oakhurst
We don't expect every veterinarian to arrive with the same interests or experience. We do expect our associates to contribute.

You might bring:

  • A strong interest or advanced experience in sports medicine and lameness
  • Expertise in reproduction, dentistry, podiatry, internal medicine, surgery, or diagnostic imaging
  • An interest in developing a particular service or area of the practice
  • New ideas for improving patient care, client communication, scheduling, workflow, or practice efficiency
  • A willingness to share your knowledge and learn from the veterinarians around you
  • The ability to work independently while knowing when collaboration makes a case better
  • A genuine interest in helping develop the next generation of equine veterinarians
  • The initiative to identify opportunities rather than waiting to be told what needs to be done
  • We are not looking for someone who simply wants to come in, see appointments, go home, and repeat.

We want someone who takes pride in the practice they work for and wants to leave it better than they found it.

What We Do
Oakhurst provides a broad range of equine veterinary services, including:

  • Sports Medicine & Lameness
  • Reproduction
  • Podiatry
  • Dentistry
  • Internal & Preventive Medicine
  • Surgery and standing surgical procedures
  • Diagnostic Imaging, including radiography and ultrasound
  • Pre-purchase examinations
  • Regenerative therapies
  • Ambulatory and emergency care
  • Our caseload provides the opportunity to see everything from routine ambulatory medicine to challenging lameness, performance, reproductive, and medical cases.

We are particularly interested in veterinarians with a strong interest in lameness and sports medicine, as well as veterinarians who can bring additional expertise to the practice.

What We Expect From You
You don't need to know everything. None of us do.

You do need to be curious, dependable, willing to communicate, and willing to take responsibility for your work.

We value veterinarians who:

  • Think critically rather than simply following the usual way of doing things
  • Communicate directly and professionally
  • Build lasting relationships with clients
  • Treat assistants and coworkers with respect
  • Ask for help when they need it—and offer it when someone else does
  • Accept feedback and are willing to give constructive feedback
  • Continue learning
  • Take ownership of problems and participate in finding solutions
  • Care about the long-term success of the practice, not just their own schedule
  • We want colleagues, not placeholders.

What We Offer
In return, Oakhurst offers the structure and resources to allow a good veterinarian to build a good career.

Our compensation includes a first-year guaranteed Pro-Salary base with production-based compensation, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

Medical allowance
Professional liability insurance
Continuing education allowance
Professional memberships
Disability coverage
Retirement program
Production-based compensation
Shared emergency call
Paid time away from the practice
We believe compensation should reflect the workload, responsibility, experience, skills, and contribution each veterinarian brings to the practice.

We also believe a sustainable career matters.…
