George Fox University's Campus Public Safety department is looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as a full-time Campus Safety Officer, during the graveyard shift, to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, faculty, and guests of the University.
About the JobThe Campus Public Safety Officer, under general supervision, plays a crucial role in ensuring the protection, safety, and security of the students, staff, faculty, guests, and property of George Fox University. This position's responsibilities will include patrolling campus buildings, facilities, and grounds, diligently observing, reporting, and investigating incidents and suspicious activities. The primary objective of Campus Public Safety Officers is to ensure the utmost security and safety of individuals and property.
Jobresponsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Performing security patrols by vehicle, bicycle, and/or on foot. Being a presence on campus to deter criminal behavior and build trust with all members and guests of the GFU community.
- Performing security patrols at the Newberg Campus by vehicle, bicycle, and/or on foot.
- Monitoring video cameras while in the office.
- Investigating and taking the appropriate lawful action as authorized by Campus Public Safety protocols on accidents, incidents, trespassing, suspicious activities, safety, and fire.
- Serving as a liaison between the Newberg Police and Tualatin Valley Fire Departments.
- Controlling access to property and buildings.
- Neutralizing situations calmly with tact and common sense.
- Providing any needed assistance to and build trust with all members and guests of George Fox University.
- Answering and directing incoming calls.
- Greeting and directing visitors and potential students to the proper admissions or program areas as needed.
- Assisting with escorts, jump‑starts, and vehicle unlocks.
- Adjusting access to card lock systems as needed for faculty specific to their needs.
- Maintaining the professional standards of GFU Campus Public Safety by following the policies and procedures of the department.
- Observing and reporting deficiencies at the Newberg Center using the proper work order protocol.
- Obeying the laws of the state of Oregon and abiding by the DPSST Private Security Professional Code of Ethics in upholding professionalism and integrity of the industry.
- Protecting individuals and property from theft, vandalism, trespassing, fire and accidents, or misappropriation of any goods, money or other items of value.
- Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to:
- Basic record keeping and report writing practices.
- Occasionally assisting with room set up for events.
- Testifying in court regarding an incident or emergency as needed.
- Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
- By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typically a shift will start with a briefing from the off‑going officer concerning events of prior shift and any situations or necessary problems. The officer will then read through emails, daily reports and prepare for shift patrol by ensuring all gear and equipment are in working order. Throughout the day they will perform random patrols, answer customer service calls, and complete office and general duties as assigned such as locking/unlocking buildings and classrooms, setting barricades, and confronting suspicious people.
We'relooking for candidates who have
- High School diploma/GED.
- One year experience in private or campus security and experience with interpretations of federal, state, local laws and ordinances as applied to campus environment.
- A basic understanding of law enforcement and security patrol principles and practices as well as traffic and parking rules and regulations.
- Qualifications to be certified under DPSST as Unarmed Security Professional.
