Salary Range:$22.02 - $35.86 per hour (Grade 6 – 7 of Employee Pay Plan), DOE

The Park Ranger serves as a positive presence at Bob & Crystal Rilee Park and other park locations throughout Chehalem Park and Recreation District. The position is responsible for visitor safety, education of visitors, responding to park incidents and emergencies, and monitoring of park facilities, trail systems, and natural areas. This position is responsible for creating a safe and welcoming environment, interacting with park visitors, sharing information about parks resources and history, working with volunteers, and ensuring compliance with and enforcement of park rules.

The Park Ranger works on tasks that are varied, requiring the use of discretion and judgement in performing assigned work, and ensuring that efficient and effective services are provided. This position receives direct supervision from the Basic Services Supervisor and may exercise limited supervision over part-time employees or volunteers.

• 2 or more years of demonstrated experience ensuring visitation areas or facilities are safe and welcoming.
• 1 or more years of demonstrated experience working as interpretive, visitation, safety, or enforcement personnel in a public park or facility setting for a local, state, or federal agency.
• Possess first aid and CPR training, or have the ability to complete training within 3 months of hire date.

• The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience or abilities to foster a an atmosphere of trust and respect; maintain positive working relationships District personnel and other partners; engage in continuous improvement; ensure the provision of efficient, safe, and cost-effective services; practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, coworkers, and the general public.
• 2 or more years of professional experience working as interpretive, visitation, safety, or enforcement personnel in a public park or facility setting for a local, state, or federal agency.
• 2 or more years of experience working in a safety or enforcement setting.
• Fluent in English and Spanish. Fluency in other languages is also desirable.
• For Specialist III, demonstrated experience of:
• 5 or more years of demonstrated experience ensuring visitation areas or facilities are safe and welcoming.
• 5 or more years of experience working as interpretive, visitation, safety, or enforcement personnel in a public park or facility setting for a local, state, or federal agency.
• 3 or more years of experience working in a safety or enforcement setting.

Compensation is administered via the Chehalem Park and District’s Employee Pay Plan. The most current version of the Pay Plan is available within the Personnel portion of the District’s adopted budget which is available online at https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). .

This is a part-time position, typically working up to 12–24 hours per week. Position will be required to assume a schedule of flexible working hours, including weekends, early and evenings. Hours may vary based on operational needs, seasonal changes, and other requirements.
