Pay

Pay starting is $32.10/hr., $4.85/hr. shift premium for the weekend shift. Annual increases. Incentive bonus eligibility.

Work Schedule

Weekend Shift - 6:30am – 7:00pm (Friday‑Sunday) or 6:30pm – 7:00am (Friday‑Sunday).

Job Overview

The Kraft Heinz Company is currently seeking a Refrigeration Technician to work at our food processing facility in Newberry, SC! Successful candidates must be willing to supply improvements, suggestions, and ideas to help continue the success of our facility. Ideal individuals must be safety‑ and quality-oriented and demonstrate adaptability and willingness to work in a team‑oriented, fast‑paced work environment.

This position requires troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of plant refrigeration and steam‑generation equipment, building, and supporting facilities. It involves the planning and execution of installation, alteration, and modification of existing and new equipment.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Respond to plant calls relating to refrigeration system processing deficiencies. Perform analysis of equipment operation and production methods to determine problem. Develop and implement solutions to return equipment to proper operation conditions.
  • Develop and implement solutions to reduce and eliminate recurring problems in a systematic manner.
  • Investigate plans and execute maintenance work requests in a timely and cost‑effective manner. Scope of work includes but is not limited to repair, alteration and design of thermal, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, chemical and biological systems.
  • Consult with plant personnel regarding the required or suggested equipment and facility repair and alteration.
  • Prepare mechanical work requests to repair equipment, building and support facilities.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions to procure needed materials for the completion of work requests.
  • Consult with vendors to procure mechanical supplies, troubleshoot equipment problems and improve plant processes.
  • Prepare material disbursement requisitions and enter time into SAP to accurately document costs for the completion of mechanical work requests.
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance work requests. Update existing and write new preventative maintenance routines to effectively improve equipment reliability.
  • Perform daily operational checks on refrigeration and steam‑generation equipment.
  • Perform daily checks on cooler temperatures to ensure compliance with plant program.
  • Perform daily inspection of plant fire protection and compressed air systems.
  • Monitor usage of plant water, gas and electricity.
  • Actively participate in the PSM process and project teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Mechanics spend most of the shift (8‑12 hours) on their feet. They must service equipment in the plant, on the grounds, and in support buildings across an area of over 50 acres. Walking on wet/slippery floors, concrete/asphalt surfaces is common and tool pouches (approx. 15 pounds) are encouraged. Mechanics climb, traverse, work in tight spaces, crawl spaces, and confined spaces. They must lift, lower or support equipment and exert significant force on hand tools.

Work may be performed in dusty, smoky environments requiring mask or respirator use. Temperatures range from –30ºF to 100ºF and humidity levels may reach 100% during sanitation.

Expected Experience & Required Skills

An Associate Degree in Refrigeration (preferred) or at least 2 years’ experience in industrial refrigeration and maintenance that provides a well‑rounded understanding of the specialized job knowledge.
