Senior Controls Engineer
Senior Controls Engineer responsible for leading and supporting capital equipment projects from concept through installation and qualification, and delivering controls engineering expertise across diverse automation applications such as conveyance, packaging, fabrication equipment, and more. Must reside on site in Louisville, KY, with flexible scheduling options to support work‑life integration.
Responsibilities- Lead and support capital equipment projects from concept through installation and qualification, including specifications, supplier engagement, and technical reviews.
- Partner cross‑functionally with design, lean, quality, EHS, procurement, and operations teams to enable successful new product introductions.
- Deliver controls engineering expertise across automation applications like conveyance, packaging, fabrication equipment, refrigeration charge systems, plastics automation, and more.
- Ensure equipment and tooling meet company standards, supporting Manufacturing Control Plans (MCP) and Manufacturing Control Instructions (MCI).
- Champion machine safety by collaborating with EHS teams to protect employees and ensure compliance with ISO 13849.
- Work alongside robotics and automation engineers to implement innovative, cost‑effective solutions.
- Support factory teams with implementation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of new and existing systems.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related discipline OR equivalent hands‑on experience in technical/manufacturing disciplines.
- 5+ years of hands‑on & relevant controls engineering experience with automated manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Experience with Rockwell Automation control systems, Studio
5000, Factory Talk View. - Knowledge and practice of machine safety (ISO
13849).
- Ability to work in large cross‑functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization.
- Good communication skills – expected to provide program report outs to cross‑functional team.
- Ability to make decisions and willingness to take ownership of complex projects.
- Automation integration and proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD.
- Experience in a large‑scale manufacturing environment and capital equipment procurement.
- Experience with plastics automation.
- Skilled knowledge of controls software (Rockwell, Emerson, Siemens) and coding structure for ladder logic.
- Experience with other controls programming languages such as structured text, and function block diagram is beneficial.
- TUV Certification in machine safety.
The primary work schedule is the 1st shift; however, occasional support during weekends, 2nd, and 3rd shifts may be necessary.
TravelPosition primarily based in Louisville, KY, but may require travel to other locations as needed. Travel (domestic and international) may be required approximately 20‑30% of the time in accordance with project requirements.
