Senior Manager, Advanced Manufacturing – Louisville, KY
Senior Manager, Advanced Manufacturing will lead a team of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) engineers to support advanced engineering across the Clothes Care business in AP1, specifically supporting the dryer production line at Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky. The role involves developing, managing, and executing capital equipment and high-volume manufacturing process projects to meet required budget and launch schedules.
Responsibilities- Support development of business cross‑platform strategies for the assigned function and related systems.
- Develop standards and ensure all company‑procured or modified equipment complies with these standards and project deliverables (safety, cost, quality, delivery).
- Support AME engineers during tooling/equipment procurement, design, build, qualification, installation, and commissioning.
- Coordinate and manage control systems for capital equipment procurement projects, including specification development, supplier selection, early supplier engagement, technical reviews, factory layout development, installation, and qualification.
- Ensure tooling and equipment are reliable, robust, and designed to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Provide technical leadership and expertise for industry‑leading manufacturing equipment and processing activities.
- Participate in sign‑off and acceptance of initial process operations/technical plans, drawings, equipment designs, and ongoing process improvements.
- Ensure all equipment executed in GE Appliances factories complies with industry (ANSI, ISO, NFPA, RIA) and governmental EHS standards.
- Promote Human Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to ensure equipment and processes prioritize operator health and safety.
- Work with functional leaders to align equipment and processes with business initiatives such as Bill of Process (B of P), Lean Manufacturing, Ergonomic Design, and TPM.
- Manage program manufacturing and operation risk for budget and schedule, continuously identify, track, and mitigate risk.
- Provide feedback to the program core team to ensure manufacturing risk impact is understood.
- Elevate significant risks to leadership in a timely manner.
- Manage and mentor AME team members, allocating control strategy requirements across the team.
- Collaborate with product line AME Managers to integrate program projects with plant projects.
- Work with factory operations and LEAN teams to understand Value Stream and its impact.
- Promote use of the 9‑Step Process for tooling and equipment design; consult Critical Process leaders as applicable.
- Develop Manufacturing Control Plans (MCP) and Manufacturing Control Instructions (MCI) with cross‑functional teams.
- Assist in growing the AME organization’s capability through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing.
- Bachelor of Science degree in a related Engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in specification, design, and installation of manufacturing equipment/automation and process improvement.
- Manufacturing project leadership experience, demonstrating ability to manage an engineering team and program risk to meet technical & commercial requirements.
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (preferred).
- Direct management experience for highly skilled engineering teams (preferred).
- Hands‑on experience in specification, design, installation, and startup of industry‑leading equipment and automation.
- Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project or equivalent, and CAD/CAE products.
- Prior experience in a GD&T environment.
Normal manufacturing environment conditions; may involve plant walking and equipment proximity. Frequent domestic travel (20–30%) and occasional international travel. Use of personal protective equipment as required.
