This Global Specialty Products technology team program engineer position is an integral role in the development and implementation of highly efficient and reliable GSP products with superior performance for GE Appliances, a Haier Company.
The position will closely interact with sourced suppliers along with the GE Appliances technology, sourcing, quality, and commercial teams to understand all consumer queues in an effort to design and produce new and innovative products that lead the market. The use of skilled engineering analysis and judgment with a strong desire to exceed customer expectations in every way is paramount to position success.
Position Lead Design Engineer Location USA, Louisville, KY
How You'll Create Possibilities- Own the definition, development, and maintenance of Product Technical Specifications (PTS) for GSP retail AC, ventilation hood, and garbage disposer platforms, ensuring alignment on performance, reliability, regulatory, safety, and validation requirements
- Architect, standardize, and strategically evolve ventilation hood platforms in collaboration with suppliers, covering mechanical, electrical, control, and airflow systems
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure component and system compliance, supporting qualification, audits, and adherence to PTS and certification requirements
- Lead airflow system development and validation across ventilation categories, driving industry-leading performance through supplier and internal engineering collaboration
- Drive design optimization for airflow efficiency, noise reduction, energy performance, and overall system reliability
- Ensure compliance with product safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (e.g., UL, AHAM, DOE) by translating requirements into design criteria and PTS
- Partner cross-functionally with product, sourcing, quality, manufacturing, distribution, and service teams to ensure platform consistency and successful execution
- Drive modular platform strategies to enable scalability, product differentiation, and cost efficiency
- Lead evaluation and integration of new technologies, including motors, filtration, grinding systems, and connected/digital features
- Own technical leadership as the subject matter expert for ventilation hood and disposer platforms, supporting NPIs, validation strategies, and reliability improvements
- Maintain engineering documentation, CAD models, and technical specifications to ensure platform integrity and reuse
- Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement based on field and production feedback
- Support strategic planning activities including project scoping, competitive benchmarking, and contribution to long-term planning (LTP) and investment prioritization
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Self-starting leader with 8+ years of engineering experience
- Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive problem solver comfortable with hands on work in a laboratory setting to demonstrate solutions
- Demonstrated ability to work in a global environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work multiple design options in parallel.
- Strong project leadership experience and analytical/problem solving skills with demonstrated ability to scope and analyze cross-functional problems to generate/implement solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing requirements during the development process.
- Ability to travel within U.S. and internationally (10% or less)
