Staff Accountant

Description

We are looking for a dedicated Staff Accountant to join our team in fully on-site in Newburgh, New York. In this long-term contract-to-hire opportunity, you will play a vital role in supporting payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting processes within a healthcare-focused nonprofit organization.

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the accurate and efficient financial operations that support our mission of compassionate care.

Responsibilities:

+ Process and maintain accounts payable in Great Plains, including account reconciliations and upload of check files to bank's Positive Pay portal

+ Key team player in bi-weekly payroll processing, including audit of time records, tax forms, direct deposit accounts & other payroll account maintenance in HRIS/Payroll system UKG Workforce Ready

+ Assist with payroll reporting; monthly, quarterly, and year-end processes (W-2s, 1099s), and Workers' Compensation audits

+ Prepare payroll journal entries and record benefit-related activity, including health insurance, HSA/FSA, 403(b)

+ Process and submit bi-weekly 403(b) payroll contributions via vendor portal

+ Support the Finance Leadership team with annual financial audits and posting general ledger activity

Requirements

+ Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field required

+ 5 years experience in payroll and accounting, preferably in a non-profit or healthcare setting

+ Minimum 1 year of automated payroll processing experience required; experience working with UKG Ready is highly preferred

+ Thorough knowledge of accounting practices, procedures, and budgeting is required

+ Proficiency in MS Word, MS Outlook, and Electronic File Management.

+ Strong MS Excel skills, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP is highly preferred

+ Ability to manage priorities, work independently, and maintain strict confidentiality
