Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician based at our Chieveley sewage treatment works, RG20 8TY
. You will use your electrical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment in a safe, efficient and timely manner with minimum supervision to keep sites operational.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician
  • Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of yourself, colleagues, contractors and visitors by complying with Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water's guidelines.
  • Undertaking reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault finding to identify issues, fixing them or escalating as required, and installing new plant and equipment in line with current Standards and Regulations.
  • Recording work and asset information to improve business performance, identifying possible future risks and recommending changes, raising them for resolution as required.
  • Providing specialist technical advice with up-to-date knowledge, and coaching, training and developing staff under supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
  • Delivering excellent customer experience and contributing to overall customer satisfaction by interacting with internal and external customers in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.

Base

Location:

Chieveley STW, School Road, Chieveley, Newbury, RG20 8TY

Hours: 38 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to £8,000 - £10,000 per annum on completion of essential training.

On‑duty equipment: PPE, tools, and the provision of a van when on duty and on call.

What you should bring to the role

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:

  • Time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18th Edition preferred, but training can be provided.
  • Problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions or escalate as required.
  • Excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adaptable to the pressures of work and a changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and under own initiative to design to standards.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work across different teams, respectful, provides helpful feedback and supports the development of others.
  • Full UK driving licence.
