The School Nurse will have primary responsibility for students in grades 4 and 5, providing program management, nursing services, collaboration, health education, community health, emergency planning, and professional practice.

• Use the nursing process to collaborate with parents, guardians, and students to develop individualized health care plans.
• Collect health and developmental information, including histories, screenings, assessments, and emotional status; make home visits as needed.
• Develop nursing diagnoses and care plans with specific goals, coordinating with other providers and school personnel.
• Provide medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration, and care to ill children daily.
• Respond to common health issues, offer counseling and crisis intervention, and address substance abuse, family bereavement, neglect, or abuse as required by Massachusetts statute.
• Assess student responses, update electronic health records, and document progress toward goal achievement.
• Plan for health needs during field trips, off‑site activities, and after‑hours events; attend field trips when warranted.
• Provide first aid, everyday care of acutely ill children, and manage communicable diseases. Administer CPR and respond to emergencies promptly.
• Serve on committees and teams such as crisis intervention, support groups for grieving students, etc.

• Consult with the Nurse Leader, school physician, administrators, and others to establish, review, and revise policies, protocols, and programs for comprehensive school health education and services.
• Ensure orientation, training, supervision, and evaluation of non‑licensed staff in compliance with statutes.
• Organize and implement state‑mandated programs, including immunization surveillance and screening.
• Maintain comprehensive school health records and use population‑based data to plan and evaluate programs.
• Complete continuous quality improvement programs as needed.
• Prepare regular written reports for school officials, committee, DPH, and other agencies on services provided and student needs.
• Implement communicable disease prevention and infection control programming per current guidelines and coordinate with the local board of health.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the nurse leader, principal, or superintendent.

• Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
• DESE Academic Support Personnel School Nurse Certification.
• Bachelor of Nursing degree required.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

$56,803 to $92,440 Per Year
