Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

An established and progressive environmental consultancy is seeking an Ecologist to join its expanding team in the North East. This role offers the chance to contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects, supporting developments from initial planning stages through to implementation and ongoing environmental management.

The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team delivering ecological expertise across a variety of sectors. Project work spans residential and mixed-use developments, major infrastructure, renewable energy schemes, green infrastructure, and large-scale habitat and nature recovery initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertaking Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs)
  • Delivering Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs)
  • Supporting Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments and strategies
  • Carrying out protected species surveys (such as bats, great crested newts, birds, and reptiles)
  • Conducting habitat surveys and condition assessments
  • Assisting in the preparation of mitigation, enhancement, and long‑term management plans
Ideal Candidate
  • A degree in Ecology or a related discipline
  • Practical field survey experience and knowledge of UK wildlife legislation
  • Strong report writing skills with attention to detail
  • A full UK driving licence
  • A proactive, organised approach and a genuine enthusiasm for ecology
