About the RoleWe're looking for a creative, community-focused professional to join the City of Newcastle as our Events & Recreation Coordinator. In this dynamic role, you'll be the driving force behind the events and volunteer programs that make Newcastle a great place to live. You'll work across the Executive Department, partner closely with the City Clerk on public communications, and serve as the key staff liaison to the Community Activities Commission (CAC).
WhatYou'll Do
- Plan, coordinate, and produce community events from start to finish — facilities, vendors, volunteers, setup and takedown, and everything in between.
- Serve as staff liaison to the CAC, including preparing agendas and materials and attending all commission meetings.
- Manage the City's volunteer program — recruiting, assigning, and supporting volunteers across a range of activities.
- Pursue sponsor ships, grants, and additional funding to support programs and events.
- Develop promotional materials and coordinate all public-facing communications through the City Clerk.
- Manage program budgets, track expenditures, and prepare annual activity reports.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, HOAs, vendors, and stakeholders.
- An organized, energetic professional who thrives on juggling multiple projects and deadlines.
- A strong communicator — in writing, in person, and in front of an audience.
- Someone who takes pride in connecting people to their community.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively across departments.
- Flexible with your schedule — events happen evenings and weekends.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office and comfortable with internet-based tools.
- Make a visible, lasting impact in a close-knit community.
- Varied, meaningful work — no two days are the same.
- Collaborative team environment with a mission you can believe in.
