Headquarters in Newington, CT
Telework eligible after a successful completion of the working test period.
The Associate Accountant will report to the Supervising Accountant, Capital Services Division, Federal Billing Unit.
Duties- Perform grant‑related financial reviews and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and support grant closeout activities.
- Prepare federal billings, reimbursement requests, and related financial documentation.
- Monitor grant activity and prepare summaries, reports, and supporting materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support compliance with state accounting standards, federal requirements, and internal procedures, including responding to audits and identifying issues.
- Provide training and assistance to staff on financial systems, reporting tools, and billing processes.
- Develop and update unit procedures.
- Communicate with internal units and external partners to resolve routine financial inquiries.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Seven (7) years of experience in accounting or auditing.
- At least one (1) year of experience at the level of an Accountant, Auditor, or Accounts Examiner with responsibility for independent analysis and judgment in applying professional accounting principles and practices.
- Strong knowledge of professional accounting principles and practices, including governmental accounting and budgeting.
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Analytical ability to evaluate financial records, methods, and procedures; devise and implement accounting procedures and systems.
- Supervisory ability (if applicable).
- Experience using CORE‑CT financial modules to manage billings, review expenditures and budgets, modify and run complex queries, and analyze EPM reports and data.
- Experience performing accounting functions related to federal grant reimbursements, including preparing billings, managing billing rates, and reconciling grants in compliance with federal regulations, state accounting standards, and agency fiscal policies and procedures.
- Experience developing and maintaining written procedures, workflows, and related documentation.
- Experience communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, or a related analytical or quantitative field.
