Position Overview
The Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is recruiting a current Connecticut state employee for the role of Transportation Safety Advisor 1 within the Bureau of Finance and Administration, Division of Occupational Health & Safety (DOHS).
Responsibilities- Serve as the lead safety instructor and develop a comprehensive safety training program for all CTDOT employees.
- Administer regular safety orientation and refresher training, responding to training requests and identifying emerging training needs.
- Create engaging safety course content, instructor guides, and curriculum materials.
- Act as a liaison between the Division and other training units to coordinate curriculum and regulatory compliance.
- Analyze job hazards, conditions, and controls to support consistent, adequate training.
- Participate in meetings, conferences, investigations, inspections, and field visits to gather training data and integrate findings into the training program.
- Support operational units in skill evaluations, such as Driver Evaluations, and maintain proper documentation.
- Coordinate training schedules, maintain records, and report on training activities.
- Stay current on safety regulations and best practices.
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in training and/or enforcement of employee safety regulations and safe working practices.
- College training may be substituted for a maximum of four (4) years of experience (15 semester hours per ½ year of experience).
- Experience developing and delivering in‑person safety training on OSHA regulations, hazard identification, hazardous materials (HAZMAT), hazard communication (Haz Com), and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Experience with workplace safety policies and procedures across construction, general industry, motor vehicle operations, commercial driver’s license (CDL) operations, and emergency response.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
- Monday – Friday, Full‑time (40 hours per week)
- First shift
- Location:
Newington, CT (on‑site) - Extensive in‑state travel and occasional extended hours during emergencies.
