THE ROLE

The Division of Construction Operations (DCO) administers construction and maintenance projects statewide from design to final acceptance. This office is involved with Alternative Project Delivery, Construction Claims & Litigation, E-Construction, Materials Testing and Central Surveys. The Quality Assurance Unit is responsible for Pavement Advisory Team, Work Zone Safety, Value Engineering, Records Examination, Constructability Plan Reviews, and Standard Specifications revisions.

The Division of Construction Operations – Advisory Team's primary role is to continually provide technical support to the Connecticut Department of Transportation units to improve the design, construction, and administration of various statewide construction projects.

Transportation Engineer 2 (Construction Engineering) position will provide support to construction engineers regarding best practices and proper fulfillment of construction specification, plan, and contract requirements with a focus on roadway structure and pavement related activities. Conduct field reviews to disseminate information on proper construction practices, and to determine lessons learned feedback for construction and design engineers. Identify reoccurring design and construction issues and inconsistent construction practices throughout construction districts and make recommendations for improvement.

Help develop and improve construction specifications. Conduct training for construction engineers. Research, promote, and support new technologies and construction practices that improve performance and safety, save time, and reduce costs for the Department to and to meet or exceed specified levels of quality. This position will also assist DCO with other related assignments.

A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management and two (2) years of experience in a professional transportation construction engineering or transportation engineering capacity.

NOTE:

For state employees one (1) year of experience must have been at the level of a Transportation Engineer 1 (Construction Engineering) or (Engineering).
