Transportation Engineer Trainee – Connecticut Department of Transportation
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). seeking a Transportation Engineer Trainee to join the Bureau of Engineering and Construction at its headquarters in Newington, CT.
Position Highlights- Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday) – first shift
- Location:
DOT Headquarters, Newington, CT (travel for training, conferences, field visits required) - Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required
- Eligible for telework after completion of the working test period, per Telework Policy
- Problem solve, recommend and implement effective transportation solutions in a timely manner
- Contribute to safe and efficient transportation improvements for the traveling public
- Utilize CAD software (Micro Station) and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Project, Access)
- Read and analyze or prepare construction plans and estimates
- Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferred Civil Engineering or relevant specialty)
- Engineering-related computer software skills (CAD, Microsoft Office)
- Teamwork, effective verbal and written communication, and presentation skills
- Multitasking and managing large workloads
- Minimum GPA 3.0 in relevant engineering courses
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure (as per C.G.S. §20-302) can substitute for the general experience requirement
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) licensure (as per C.G.S. §20-302) can substitute for the general experience requirement
Starting salary: $76,307 annually (Target Level for Transportation Engineer
2). After one year of training, promotion to Transportation Engineer 1 (Engineering) with salary range $85,151–$104,720. After two years as TE1, promotion to Transportation Engineer 2 with salary range $95,865–$123,809.

Incumbents may be exposed to some risk of injury or physical harm from highway, construction site, or on‑site environments, and a moderate degree of discomfort from year-round weather conditions.
