THE ROLE

The Consultant Bridge Design - CLE Program delivers a high volume of bridge and structure projects through partnerships with private‑sector consulting firms who act as CTDOT’s owner’s representatives, developing, reviewing, and refining design packages, reports, and contract documents in accordance with CTDOT standards. CTDOT’s CLE staff oversee consultant deliverables, project scope, schedule, and budget; coordinate with municipalities and stakeholders; lead public involvement;

and ensure compliance and constructability. Operating within the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Engineering, Division of Bridges, the program integrates CTDOT standards and practices with consultant expertise to advance safe, innovative, and cost‑effective multimodal infrastructure.

This Transportation Supervising Engineer position is anticipated to supervise a crew within the CLE Program. Transportation Supervising Engineers oversee work of engineers, technicians and other technical and/or clerical personnel, and assist other CTDOT operating units, consulting engineers, municipalities, and other outside officials and agencies by developing and/or making recommendations on bridge design standards; preparing reports, recommendations and correspondence; supervising office functions for design projects;

supervising preparation of comprehensive technical reports and related correspondence; making oral presentations at public information meetings and hearings; reviewing work of consultant engineers; and ensuring that consultant developed plans, specifications, estimates, and other deliverables are complete, and compliant.

As needed operationally, this recruitment may be used to fill other positions within the Division of Bridges .

Requirements
  • This position requires active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection State Board of Examiners for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors consistent with C.G.S. 20-302.
  • Applicants must be available to travel to and attend trainings, conferences, public meetings, field reviews, emergency responses, etc., both within and outside of normal working hours, when necessary. A valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained.
