The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT), is now accepting applications for a Connecticut Career Trainee position, with a target class of Transportation Planner 1 within the Bureau of Policy & Planning, Roadway Information Systems Office, Photolog Unit. The position is located at the Department of Transportation Headquarters in Newington.
This position requires working collaboratively with unit and office staff, and with other offices within the Department of Transportation, as well as public entities to collect, model, enhance, and expand the Roadway Inventory features and assets that are contained within the network.
The position will perform duties of increasing difficulty split between the field and office to assist with collection of data from a variety of sources and manage that information within specialized software platforms and databases.

THE TEAM AND ROLE
The Roadway Information Systems Section is responsible for the collection, analysis and dissemination of roadway transportation data including Pavement condition data, Right-of-Way imagery, vehicle volumes, classifications, travel speeds and truck weigh-in-motion and the collection of a variety of other roadway attribution. The data and information are necessary to assess and predict roadway network performance, keep an accurate accounting of miles of road and attribution, and must be done in order to comply with Federal regulations.
Detailed transportation data are needed for capital project support, for funding allocation and for Federal reporting purposes. This is an exciting opportunity to learn and start a career in this "behind the scenes" data gathering and analysis that is a critical part of transportation planning in our State.
Field duties will include assisting with the setup, calibration, operation and maintenance of the Department's state-of-art and highly technical High-speed Profilling vans; performing an annual, bidirectional collection of pavement condition data and imagery for the entire state route network and ramps, a subset of the local roads and the CT Fastrak System; and will assist with the identification, layout and maintenance of control and verification sites.
In this role you will:
* Upload and processing of data in the advanced data processing and online data viewing platform environments;
* Support, configuration and troubleshooting of the platform hardware with our vendors and Information Technologies group;
* Development of data and final reports for Department, federal and other business needs; reading and interpreting engineering plans, diagrams and schematics;
