In an assigned area or cell, the machinist must be willing to be trained to set up, operate, troubleshoot, and perform work on vertical turning lathes (VTL). The machinist will perform work at a consistently high level of quality.
Typical Duties- Ability to set up operations that have been previously proven out under direct supervision of a lead man or supervisor.
- Ability to identify opportunities for improvement in tooling, cutting methods, mistake proofing, and work instruction documentation.
- Skill level that eliminates errors that cause nonconforming material, maintaining a consistent level of high‑quality work. Identify non‑conformances at the time of occurrence and notify management of required action.
- Actively participate in continuous‑improvement projects, including but not limited to 5S, TPM, kaizen events, and set‑up reduction events, aligned with Article II of the collective bargaining agreement.
- Work safely at all times and participate in safety improvement initiatives by raising concerns and helping develop corrective actions.
- Assist or train other employees in this or lower classifications as needed.
- Refer difficulties to a leader or supervisor as appropriate.
- May be assigned tasks not specifically listed within the scope and skill level of this job description to support department or cell objectives and develop individual skills.
