POSITION DESCRIPTIONAssists school administrators in maintaining order and discipline, preventing crime, investigating violations of school board policies and detaining students violating the law or school board policies on school property or at school-sponsored events and who is responsible solely for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in the assigned school . Prevents and addresses disruption of the educational process through daily operations including routine patrol, crime prevention, surveillance, investigation, emergency response, recovery of property, and related activities to ensure a safe, secure, and orderly school environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. Specific Responsibilities:
- Receives supervision from the Building Principal and Director of School Security and Registration for the enforcement of all school rules.
- Assume primary responsibility for supervising the school grounds and providing appropriate communication to correct problems.
- Coordinates with staff to promote physical security measures at school buildings.
- Be responsible for the flow of traffic and provide initial contact with the police department if necessary.
- The security officer will be responsible for providing protection of school property.
- Be available and visible in the school building and school property.
- Discourage loitering and inappropriate behavior by students outside and inside of the school building. Intruders will be removed from campus or referred to the Police Department.
- Provide assistance to staff as appropriate.
- Serve as a liaison to the Newington Police Department via the School Resource Officer. Contacts juvenile and detective divisions as needed.
- Provide transportation of students to off-campus location as needed.
- Assist with the investigation of possible illegal attendance of students not residing in the community.
- Provide other assistance as requested by the building principal and/or Director of School Security and Registration.
- Uses computer programs for video surveillance and access control and identification card software or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments.
- Coordinates with schools and staff to promote physical security measures at school buildings for the purpose of actively working to build healthy partnerships throughout the district to better serve our customers in meeting their business objectives.

- 3:30 p.m. - May perform additional tasks and duties as requested.
