Technical Writer

Zachary Piper Solutions is currently seeking a Technical Writer to support a mission-critical government program based in Newington, VA. This position is a full-time role that is fully onsite. This position is critical in ensuring accurate, compliant, and effective documentation across technical and cybersecurity environments. As a Technical Writer, you will play a pivotal role in translating complex technical concepts into clear, concise documentation supporting DoD and Army standards within a high-stakes environment.

• Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation including system manuals, SOPs, reports, and knowledge base content
• Translate complex technical, cybersecurity, and IT concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation for technical and non-technical audiences
• Ensure all documentation aligns with DoD and Army standards, including MIL-STD and applicable style guides
• Collaborate with engineers, cybersecurity professionals, and program stakeholders to gather and validate technical information
• Manage document lifecycle processes, including version control, updates, and archival procedures
• Utilize tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat for document creation, formatting, and diagramming
• Identify documentation gaps and propose improvements to enhance clarity, accuracy, and usability
• Support Agile environments by documenting sprints, workflows, and technical processes as needed
• Maintain consistency in terminology, formatting, and tone across all program documentation

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical writing, preferably within IT, cybersecurity, or defense-related environments
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Visio, and Adobe Acrobat
• Experience working with SharePoint and other content management systems
• Familiarity with DoD and Army documentation standards, including MIL-STD formats and style guides
• Strong understanding of IT systems, cybersecurity principles, and network infrastructure terminology
• Experience with version control and document lifecycle management
• Excellent grammar, editing, and formatting skills with strong attention to detail
• Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
• Familiarity with military terminology and protocols
• Active TS/SCI Clearance REQUIRED

• Experience supporting U.S. Army or other DoD programs
• Knowledge of Agile development methodologies
• Background in cybersecurity principles and IT infrastructure

• Salary Range: $100,000 – $115,000 depending on experience
