General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work processing tax collections, motor vehicle titles and registrations, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, processing tax payments, assisting the public, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Office Manager.

Qualification Requirements

Essential Functions
  • Processes motor vehicle registrations; verifies information including address, taxes are current, liens, waivers, etc.
  • Collects and processes tax information involved in processing motor vehicle, real, personal property, timber, and mobile home fees for ad valorem taxes.
  • Greets visitors; answers phones and directs calls; assists customers and taxpayers with inquiries; assists taxpayers with Homestead Exemption applications.
  • Calculates and collects taxes, fees, interest, and penalties.
  • Issues and renews tags and decals; processes handicapped and disabled parking placards.
  • Assesses and collects tax and transaction fees; processes refunds as needed.
  • Balances daily fee collections and records financial information.
  • Answers questions in person and via the phone.
  • Performs research and interprets local policies, procedures, and laws related to motor vehicles and property tax collection.
  • Examines insurance relief documents for accuracy and uses judgement in removing insurance lapses and suspension penalties.
  • Processes new title requests; ensures accuracy of information.
  • Files and submits documents to applicable agencies.
  • Maintains an up-to-date policy manual and memorandums; applies current knowledge of motor vehicle regulations and property tax collection.
  • Assists with delinquent tax collection duties as necessary or required.
  • Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of general laws and administration of motor vehicle titling and registration and property tax collection; thorough knowledge of modern office practices and of standard office and accounting equipment including computer equipment; ability to prepare and maintain detailed financial records and reports; ability to make arithmetical calculations quickly and accurately; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in customer service, clerical work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, sitting and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting;

work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions;

work is generally in a very quiet location (e.g. park trail, storage or file room).
