AVAILABLE: 2025/26

POSITION TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL - ADAPTED AUTISM - 183 DAYS
LOCATION: WESTSIDE SCHOOL $16.09 an hour

Responsibilities
  • Provide competent support and assistance to the Adapted Curriculum Autism classroom teacher(s) in the full implementation of the instructional programs for students with Autism.
  • Meet and instruct assigned groups and individuals in locations and at the times designated by the teacher.
  • Present materials required in the assignment within the content limitations of the system curriculum guides and under the direction of the teacher.
  • Assist the teacher in the implementation of programs of study that, as much as possible, meet the individual needs and abilities of the students.
  • Help create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and cognitive/behavioral level of the students.
  • Prepare for groups and/or individuals assigned, and show evidence of such preparation.
  • Provide the teacher with input for assessing the accomplishments of students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records, as required.
  • Assist with implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Help the teacher enforce reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to learners about their academic progress and behavior.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Reproduce, organize, distribute, and collect instructional materials for implementation of instructional programs.
  • Comply with any reasonable oral or written directive of the teacher, the principal, or other appropriate administration or supervisor.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information.
  • Provide support to students with Autism in a variety of settings, as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist in the collection of data and in compiling and organizing data for review by the teacher.
  • Assist with the implementation of sensory diets/protocols and positive behavioral supports/interventions.
  • Participate successfully in all training programs designed to increase skill and proficiency related to the individual job assignment, as well as procedures to be used with students with disabilities.
  • Participate in Mindset Safety Management - Deescalation training and utilize techniques according to individual student needs.
  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to perform special duties as required for meeting the unique needs of specific student populations.
Required Education, Certification or Training
  • Qualify for a Paraprofessional Certificate by either holding an Associate's Degree or higher OR 90 college quarter hours/60 semester hours OR pass the Paraprofessional GACE Assessment.
  • Mindset Safety Management - Deescalation training or the ability/willingness to receive training.
Required Skills
  • The ability to organize, direct, and control small and large groups of children in a variety of activities and settings is required.
  • The ability to adjust to changing conditions and situations is required.
Required Experience
  • Experience working with and directing the activities of children, preferably children with Autism.
