JOB SUMMARY
Instructor is responsible for performing all aspects of instruction for the Air Conditioning Technology program, including day, evening, and online programs for both traditional and dual‑enrolled students.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- Diploma in Air Conditioning Technology or related diploma/degree from an accredited institution.
- Three (3) years out of the past five (5) years of in‑field experience.
- EPA 608 Certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Alternate Industry
Certifications:
HVAC Excellence Certificate, NATE Certification, RES Certificate, GCILB Conditioned Air.
- Associate degree in Air Conditioning Technology or related field from an accredited institution.
- Directly related teaching experience at the post‑secondary level.
- Online teaching experience.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of technology: internet, email, Microsoft Office products, Knowledge Management System (KMS), Blackboard, Banner, Degree Works, and Task Stream.
- Provides instruction in theory and practical applications of Air Conditioning Technology in accordance with academic state standards.
- Instructs face‑to‑face, hybrid, or on‑campus, as needed, in accordance with college faculty loads.
- Instructs courses in a classroom and lab environment that closely simulates the industry environment.
- Utilizes current technology in the classroom and lab.
- Evaluates student progress in attaining goals and objectives.
- Grades all coursework in a timely manner.
- Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss student instructional programs and other issues.
- Maintains program certification/accreditation requirements as appropriate for the teaching discipline.
- Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in Air Conditioning Technology.
- Attends professional development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the Air Conditioning Technology program.
- Supports faculty to ensure all equipment is in working order.
- Suggests new/updated technology to remain current with trends and developments within the field.
- Ensures students are instructed in and follow all safety rules for operating equipment and using tools.
- Ensures classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times.
- Develops program curriculum, syllabi, goals, and objectives.
- Prepares lesson plans for instruction.
- Works collaboratively with faculty within the discipline to establish, measure, and evaluate program or departmental student learning outcomes for continuous student improvement and success, and submits to the Air Conditioning Program Director.
- Submits reports and data with respect to accrediting bodies.
- Reviews and edits master course shells in the online learning platform as necessary.
- Requests and maintains HVAC supplies and equipment.
- Prepares budget requests and places orders for needed supplies and equipment.
- Assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.
- Serves on committees and project assignments as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary technical education.
- Knowledge of academic course standards.
- Knowledge of West Georgia Technical College’s academic programs.
- Skill to work cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Skill in the preparation and delivery of classroom and lab content.
- Skill to make timely decisions.
