Provide leadership to effectively plan, coordinate and implement programs of instruction that ensure students opportunities to reach their highest social, emotional and academic potential. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated. Select, adapt and present materials required in the teaching assignment within the framework of the content limitations of state and system curriculum guides. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students with Autism.
Develop and implement classroom technology which may relate to the use of audio, video, graphics, research technologies and other tools to facilitate learning. Prepare for classes assigned and show evidence of preparation upon request of principal or designee. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Provide adequate background information and materials when substitute teacher is to assume responsibilities.
Maintain satisfactory attendance defined by system or local school handbook. Comply with conditions stated in contract of employment. Comply with the federal, state and local board of education requirements for the development of educationally appropriate instruction. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and work cooperatively with all staff members in attaining school goals and objectives.
Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Attend staff, department, team, or grade level meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Participate as required in the appropriate state annual evaluation process. Perform such additional responsibilities as may be assigned by the building administrators.
Additional responsibilities include abiding by the mandates of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Evaluate students with disabilities and give recommendations for a prescriptive program. Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with state and federal requirements. Monitor progress on IEP goals frequently and make appropriate changes to the student's education program. Collaborate with district Special Education personnel to implement appropriate programming, classroom structure, scheduling, sensory diet/break protocols and behavior management routines.
Collaborate with staff members and parents regarding the social/emotional learning, academic achievement and functional performance of students. Work collaboratively with and guide/support paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom. Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information. Provide consultation to other staff members concerning the unique needs of students with Autism and appropriate interventions. Participate in required district training for Mindset Safety Management
- Deescalation and utilize techniques according to individual student needs. Follow all procedural safeguards and document adherence in an appropriate manner. Participate in and provide consultation to the Student Support Team (SST) and the IEP team, as appropriate.
Minimum of bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and state required certification for Special Education General Curriculum. Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and direct the implementation of a comprehensive classroom instructional program for students with disabilities. Proficiency required in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, and competency in counseling and evaluating students with disabilities. Successful teacher training and/or teaching experiences at the level to which assigned.
Experience teaching students with Autism preferred. Experience with Infinite Campus student information system and online GOIEP platform preferred.
