Role Definition:
The Mathematics Instructional Support Teacher is a school-based expert whose primary goal is to build teacher capacity and improve student mathematics achievement focused on the professional growth of teachers. Through a non-evaluative, collaborative partnership, the coach guides teachers in implementing high-quality, evidence-based math instruction, aligning curriculum with standards, and using data to drive classroom decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead teachers through structured coaching cycles
- Tailor coaching strategies to meet the unique needs of novice teachers, veteran educators, and collaborative grade-level teams.
- Help plan, model, and co-teach lessons; visit classrooms, view instruction, and engage in reflective discussion with classroom teachers
- Help teachers design, administer, and analyze formative and summative assessments to measure student growth accurately.
- Demonstrate high-leverage math instructional strategies
- Work directly with teachers in classrooms and provide collegial support as well as mentorship (non-evaluative)
- Evaluate, along with the teacher, student learning to determine appropriate instructional planning
- Provide resources and materials to teachers/staff
- Assist teachers in unpacking mathematics standards and aligning daily lesson plans with school and state frameworks.
- Design and deliver engaging, research-based professional development sessions focused on math pedagogy and content knowledge.
- If needed, work directly with students in certain classrooms to provide instruction and increase understanding of taught concepts
- Engage in ongoing professional development to study, research, and reflect upon research-based best practices to share with all staff
- Attend and contribute to district-wide meetings
- Attend team meetings to contribute to professional dialogue
- Other duties may be assigned
