MACHINIST (2nd Shift: 3:00 pm-11:30 pm)

The Machinist operates and programs computer numerically controlled (CNC) and manual machinery, including grinding and milling machines, to produce and repair high-quality, precision parts. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and a proactive approach to efficiency. This role requires a safety‑conscious team player capable of interpreting complex blueprints and working effectively with minimal supervision.

Job Summary

The Machinist operates and programs computer numerically controlled (CNC) and manual machinery, including grinding and milling machines, to produce and repair high-quality, precision parts. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and a proactive approach to efficiency. This role requires a safety-conscious team player capable of interpreting complex blueprints and working effectively with minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and maintain CNC and manual machine tools to fabricate or repair precision components, working within tight tolerances.
  • Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machine setups, procedures, and optimal machining sequences.
  • Apply knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure product conformity.
  • Utilize and interpret various precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers (/OD/depth), calipers, and pi tapes, to inspect parts and ensure they meet specifications.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials onto machines.
  • Adjust machine feeds, speeds, and tool offsets as needed to maintain high‑quality production.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment to minimize downtime and ensure consistent performance.
  • Operate overhead cranes safely to handle materials and parts.
  • Maintain accurate inspection documentation and production records.
  • Communicate effectively within a team environment and with supervisors to ensure priorities and assignments are met efficiently.
  • Demonstrate a continuous commitment to improving efficiency, productivity, and quality.
  • Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental policies and maintain excellent housekeeping standards.
Qualifications
  • Experience with equipment such as CNC 3-axis, 5-axis, machining, grinding, milling, surface grinding, creep feed grinding.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent manual dexterity.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical documents, and work instructions.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills for measurement, testing, and problem‑solving.
  • Solid critical thinking skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail, ensuring work is consistently precise.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A trade school certificate or specialized education in machining is preferred.
  • Previous experience operating CNC and/or manual machinery is highly valued but not required for entry‑level applicants.
Certifications
  • Relevant machining certifications are required as specified by equipment manufacturers.

This position may require work hours outside of the regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs. This may include work during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Additional work hours are assigned based on business requirements. Non‑exempt employees will be paid overtime in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

The salary range for this position reflects a broad spectrum of experience levels. Individual compensation within the range is determined by multiple factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, job‑related skills, internal equity, and market conditions. We evaluate each candidate individually to ensure fair and competitive pay decisions.
