Job SummaryResponsible for all activities associated with safely operating production machines, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations to meet customer demand.
Duties & Responsibilities- Work safely at all times, be aware of surroundings and understand and comply with Pratt Industries Safety rules, operating procedures, and help hold co‑workers responsible for safety related items. Participate in Plant Safety Committee.
- Follow GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) at all times.
- Learn and comply with Pratt Industries quality procedures, stop bad quality from leaving the facility to the customer, and prevent poor quality from being sent to the customer.
- Maximize utilization of equipment by operating machinery at available capacity and speed; continuously improve setup times and reduce downtime.
- Identify and address mechanical concerns and report to Production Supervisor, Production Manager, or Plant Mechanical Technician/Specialist.
- Maintain housekeeping and cleaning of work areas, break rooms, bathrooms, refrigerators, and other areas to keep them free of tripping hazards.
- Learn and understand the capability and capacity of machines to drive efficiencies while limiting waste and downtime without compromising quality.
- Train and assist Assistant Machine Operators, Machine Helpers, and Production Utility staff on job duties, downtime, setup times, and quality.
- Cross‑train on other machines and learn other positions in the plant to increase flexibility.
- Complete necessary reports accurately and timely, including production data, machine operational status, safety data, and quality data.
- Submit maintenance work order requests for needed repairs and be proactive in maintenance and housekeeping of equipment.
- Switch duties with co‑workers as required and adapt to additional responsibilities assigned by management.
- Adhere to production schedule, make recommendations for optimization, and report unusual scheduling issues to supervisor.
- Work overtime as necessary, including on short notice, 24/7 operation, and holidays as required.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior work experience in the packaging industry (paper, plastics, converting) or 6 months in a manufacturing operation.
- Current Lift Truck Operator License may be required.
- Read and follow safety, quality, and job instruction packets.
- Basic math skills: read tape measure with speed and accuracy, calculate percentages, measurements, volume, and rate.
- Reasoning ability to apply common sense in written, oral or graphic instructions; handle problems involving concrete variables.
This role involves standing, walking, talking, or hearing; using hands and arms for handling; reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; occasionally sitting; and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustment. Work environment includes moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, exposure to high places, fumes, airborne particles, vibration and loud noise levels.
