Overview
Registered Nurse, Infusion at City of Hope. City of Hope is a leading cancer and diabetes research and treatment organization dedicated to turning hope into reality.
Responsibilities- Provide total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered nursing care for an assigned group of patients.
- Provide direct patient contact, including assessing patients, developing a comprehensive nursing plan of care, implementing nursing care, evaluating outcomes, and educating patients and caregivers requiring infusion therapy and other nursing services.
- Follow established nursing objectives, standards, policies, and procedures; practice within the defined scope of registered nursing.
- Work schedule:
9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., 3–12 shifts per week between Monday and Friday. - Perform comprehensive nursing assessments; collect and document patient data, toxicity screens, allergies, medications, and diagnostic results in the EMR.
- Identify patient needs, prioritize care, and communicate condition changes to physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
- Develop, implement, and revise individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Administer medications, chemotherapy/biotherapy, IV fluids, and blood products in accordance with applicable standards.
- Provide patient and caregiver education on disease processes, treatment side effects, procedures, and discharge instructions; document understanding.
- Recognize and respond to emergency situations; advocate for patient rights and ensure safe, ethical care delivery.
- Coordinate care across disciplines, perform effective handoffs, and uphold infection control and equipment safety standards.
- Evaluate patient outcomes, document variations in care, and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
- Delegate and supervise nursing care; support staffing needs and participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives.
- Maintain professionalism, flexibility (including floating as needed), and a collaborative, team-focused approach.
- Current state Registered Nurse License required.
- Bachelor of Science Degree required or enrolled within 6 months of hire and completed within 3 years from hire date.
- Current BLS required (If not AHA certificate must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
- ACLS preferred (If not AHA certificate must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) chemotherapy certification required; if not certified, a Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Card must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Minimum 2 years in oncology and/or medical-surgical units preferred.
- Experience in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
- Excellent infusion therapy-related skills (peripheral and central lines).
