Journeyman Mechanic

Position Title:

Journeyman Mechanic 1

12 month - hourly

Have the ability to diagnose problems, maintain shop records, and order needed parts.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent and commercial driver’s license.
• Experience with mid-range diesel engines including International, Cummins, and Mercedes; all gasoline engines, school bus bodies and chassis, hydraulic and air brake systems, steering components, manual and automatic transmissions, drive lines and rear axles.
• Skills required:
  
  perform all phases of repair and diagnose minor and major repairs; diagnose and repair fuel systems, diesel engines, ignition and electrical systems, batteries, hydraulic/air brake systems (including rebuild calipers, hydro boosters, air brake valves and chambers), steering, power steering, rear axle gear, drive line, transmissions (automatic and manual), clutch and pressure plate.
• Radio System:
  Diagnose Motorola radio system, minor repairs to radio, antenna, microphone.
• Camera systems:
  Diagnose REI and ANGEL TRAX, minor repairs, retrieve/download/copy camera hard drives.
• Computer diagnostics:
  Diagnose engines, read & research codes.

• Have the ability to diagnose problems, maintain shop records, and order needed parts.
• Communicate in an orderly manner with shop personnel, bus drivers and other supervisors.
• Execute work assignments with minimum supervision.
• Understand and adhere to all safety rules.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Shop Foreman and/or Transportation Manager.
