Sr. Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a team in Newport Beach, California on a Long-term Contract basis. This position will play a central role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting close activities, and ensuring compliance across multiple accounting areas. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound analytical judgment, and the ability to manage detailed reconciliations in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee core general ledger activities by preparing and reviewing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and driving timely month-end close deliverables.

- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including accrued obligations and other liability-related reserves, while investigating and resolving variances.

- Review intercompany transactions and balances to ensure accuracy, consistency, and proper financial reporting across entities.

- Administer fixed asset accounting by tracking additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation, and capital project reclassifications while maintaining supporting schedules.

- Record payroll and benefits-related accounting activity, including accruals, reversals, liability reconciliations, and specialized employee compensation or leave-related entries.

- Prepare and submit sales and use tax filings on a recurring basis and reconcile related accounts to support compliance with state and local regulations.

- Analyze operating expenses and accruals for items such as supplies, laboratory costs, rebates, and vendor-related programs, including allocation and reclassification entries.

- Manage lease accounting records and recurring entries to support adherence to applicable accounting guidance.

- Maintain accounting procedures and documentation, support audits, and contribute to process improvements, cross-training, and knowledge-sharing efforts across the team. Requirements - 7+ years of accounting experience, including significant exposure to senior-level general ledger responsibilities.

- Strong hands-on experience with month-end close, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation activities.

- Solid understanding of general ledger structure, accrual accounting, and financial statement support.

- Background in fixed asset accounting, including depreciation, capitalization, transfers, and disposals.

- Experience accounting for payroll, employee benefits, and related balance sheet liability reconciliations.

- Working knowledge of sales and use tax compliance and account reconciliation requirements.

- Ability to analyze complex transactions, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues with a high level of accuracy.

- Proficiency in bank reconciliations and spreadsheet-based financial analysis tools.
