The Role

We are actively seeking a talented Senior Financial Reporting Analyst II to join our centralized accounting and financial reporting team based in Newport Beach, CA. This pivotal role is designed to support the financial reporting processes related to the Consumer Markets divisional products. As a Senior Financial Reporting Analyst II, you will be instrumental in ensuring accurate and compliant financial statements, supporting accounting operations, and contributing to strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing reporting efficiencies.

You will work closely with a team of insurance accounting subject matter experts within the Enterprise Accounting and Reporting group, collaborating with professionals across accounting, finance, actuarial, technology, and other business units. Your expertise will help drive the company’s financial integrity, transparency, and compliance, positioning Pacific Life for continued growth and success.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess at least 8+ years of relevant experience in financial reporting or accounting, complemented by a 4-year degree in accounting or an equivalent qualification. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Teams, and Outlook, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities under tight deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required to effectively convey complex financial information to diverse audiences.

The role demands strong organizational skills, independence in a deadline-driven environment, and a collaborative mindset. Candidates should also have a high level of accountability, customer focus, and a willingness to mentor colleagues with less experience. Experience with insurance industry practices, and familiarity with systems such as People Soft, Oracle, or Essbase, will be advantageous. CPA candidacy or licensure, public accounting experience, and industry certifications will distinguish candidates further.

Responsibilities
  • Execute quarterly accounting and reporting tasks, including processing, reviewing, and approving journal entries, reconciliations, and analyzing results to ensure the accuracy and completeness of account balances.
  • Prepare and review various financial reporting requirements, including quarterly and annual GAAP and statutory financial statements, compliance requests, and internal management reports.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts and business partners across actuarial, accounting, reporting, tax, financial planning & analysis, and technology teams to ensure seamless information flow and compliance.
  • Validate that the impacts of specific business events are accurately reflected in financial results, maintaining the integrity of reporting data.
  • Analyze and communicate key drivers of financial results to stakeholders throughout the financial close process, including preparing fluctuation analyses and presenting findings to management using data visualization tools and data-driven insights.
  • Support finance transformation initiatives by automating manual processes, redesigning business processes, and accelerating the accounting close cycle.
