Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a growing organization on a Contract basis in Newport Beach, California. This role will support day-to-day accounting operations and help maintain accurate financial activity during a period of organizational change. The ideal candidate can work independently, communicate effectively across teams, and contribute to a smooth month-end close while managing both payables and cash-related tasks.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee shared accounts payable and accounts receivable communications, ensuring requests and issues are addressed promptly and accurately.

- Review and enter vendor invoices through the AP automation platform, maintaining accuracy and timely processing of daily transaction volume.

- Evaluate and complete customer credit application processing in accordance with internal accounting procedures.

- Respond to vendor questions, resolve billing discrepancies, and support exception handling for more complex payable items.

- Match invoices to supporting documentation and verify details before approval and posting.

- Prepare cash reconciliations, record daily cash activity, and apply incoming payments to the appropriate customer accounts.

- Maintain general ledger account accuracy by performing reconciliations, investigating variances, and supporting recurring close activities.

- Assist with journal entries and other accounting tasks tied to monthly reporting and ongoing operational needs. Requirements - Hands-on experience in accounts payable processing, including invoice review, vendor support, and transaction management.

- Strong working knowledge of cash reconciliations, cash application, and general ledger maintenance.

- Practical accounting experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, and core concepts such as accruals and reserves.

- Clear and detail-oriented communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across internal and external contacts.

- Familiarity with Net Suite and AP automation tools such as Dokka; exposure to comparable accounting systems is also valuable.

- Ability to adapt quickly, learn established workflows, and provide dependable support within a small accounting team.

- Background in corporate tax, sales tax, corporate tax returns, or related accounting functions is a plus.
