Position: ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE)

The City of Newport Beach is seeking one full-time (non-exempt) Administrative Assistant to join the City Manager's Office and provide administrative support to the City Council. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational abilities, strong communication and customer service skills, and a keen attention to detail.

Position Highlights:
  • Works closely with the City Manager's Office team in coordinating the administrative operations of the department and assisting the City Council.
  • Maintains calendars, makes appointments, schedules meetings, and coordinates departmental activities.
  • Interacts with elected and appointed officials, department directors, and provides administrative support to City committees.
  • Coordinates department personnel-related matters including payroll.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments.

Schedule:
  • This position may work a 5/40 or 9/80 schedule

Retirement:

The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% (or half the normal cost, whichever is higher) of pay towards the retirement benefit.

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Four or more years of increasingly responsible administrative, secretarial, and clerical experience. Government experience and experience working closely with senior management, boards, and commissions desirable.

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Additional coursework or training in office administration, business administration or a related field desirable.

License/Certificate:

Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record may be required.
