Job Summary
DPR Construction is seeking a senior estimator with at least 8 years of commercial construction experience, focusing on healthcare, advanced technology, higher education, life sciences, and corporate office markets. The senior estimator will work closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors to handle projects from initial estimates through subcontract formalization.
ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities include:
- Managing the project from first estimate through to subcontract formalization.
- Looking beyond available information, asking the right questions, and providing a complete project cost evaluation.
- Collaborating with project stakeholders, advocating for customers, and informing them throughout the project.
- Providing innovative solutions to complex issues related to cost, lead‑times, trade partners, and specified products or materials.
- Making reliable cost predictions and estimating across all scopes of work.
- Preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates and studies from schematic or feasibility documentation.
- Developing variance summaries and value‑engineering studies as the design evolves.
- Assembling a presentation‑worthy estimate package that communicates project cost clearly.
- Collaborating with the team to establish staffing and project requirements.
- Preparing detailed bid instructions, trade clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
- Managing the bidding process: soliciting bids, communicating with bidders, evaluating proposals, using bid tally sheets, and recommending subcontractor awards.
- Leading and presenting cost/budget information to the customer or owner.
- Participating in and leading responses to RFPs and formal project presentations.
- Engaging and developing business with new and existing customers.
- Facilitating value‑engineering sessions with project and design teams.
- Reviewing construction contracts, identifying key insurance and damage clauses.
- Managing and motivating project teams during the preconstruction phase.
- 8+ years of commercial construction estimating experience, preferably in DPR’s core markets.
- Flexible, detail‑oriented team player who can manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent listening and strong communication skills.
- Creative and innovative problem‑solving on a project‑by‑project basis.
- Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (Win Est, Timberline, or similar), take‑off software (On‑Screen Takeoff or similar), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
- Bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required.
- Strong work ethic and a 'can-do' attitude.
