About the Opportunity

Join a nationally recognized, multi-discipline consulting engineering firm with a long-standing reputation for delivering innovative solutions across complex healthcare, institutional, commercial, and specialty projects. Founded more than 40 years ago, the organization combines the personalized service of a local engineering practice with the technical depth and resources of a large, multidisciplinary firm. Engineering services include mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, commissioning, corrosion control, civil, structural, and project/construction management support.

The company is consistently recognized among leading engineering firms nationwide and is known for its collaborative culture, technical excellence, and commitment to employee development.

Position Overview

Seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong HVAC design and project execution experience to support healthcare, institutional, commercial, and specialty facility projects. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys owning project deliverables, coordinating across disciplines, and driving projects from design through completion. Rather than functioning solely in a design-support capacity, you will play a key role in project delivery-leading HVAC system design efforts, coordinating with clients and project teams, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring projects remain on schedule and aligned with client expectations.

This position offers exposure to complex HCAI-driven healthcare projects, museums, theme parks, and other unique facilities while providing a clear path toward future project leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead HVAC design and coordination efforts for airside and hydronic building systems.

* Own mechanical engineering deliverables from concept through construction documentation and project delivery.

* Coordinate closely with architects, mechanical/electrical/plumbing disciplines, and external stakeholders to maintain project alignment.

* Manage project priorities, schedules, and deliverable deadlines across multiple assignments.

* Interface directly with clients, providing technical guidance, design updates, and solutions to project challenges.

* Support and mentor junior engineers and designers, offering technical direction and reviewing work for quality and consistency.

* Coordinate with production teams to ensure drawings, Revit models, and documentation meet project standards and deadlines.

* Execute projects with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability for day-to-day project coordination and technical decisions.

* Help maintain project momentum by quickly integrating into active assignments and addressing immediate project needs.

* Contribute as a hands-on, execution-focused engineer while developing toward broader project leadership responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

* 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience within an MEP consulting or AEC consulting environment.

* Strong HVAC building systems design experience for commercial, healthcare, institutional, or similar facilities.

* Demonstrated success managing project deliverables from design through completion.

* Experience coordinating with architects, MEP teams, contractors, and clients.

* Proficiency with Revit for mechanical system design and documentation.

* Working knowledge of applicable mechanical and plumbing codes.

* Strong project coordination, organization, and time-management skills.

* Ability to work independently and consistently meet project deadlines.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with confidence in client-facing situations.

* Experience mentoring or directing the work of junior engineers and designers.

Preferred Qualifications

* Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure.

* Experience with both HVAC and plumbing system design.

* Healthcare project experience, including HCAI-regulated facilities.

* Exposure to DSA projects and institutional work.

* Project management experience within a consulting engineering environment.

* Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and support project execution with minimal oversight.

Work Environment

This position is based in Newport Beach, California, and operates within a collaborative hybrid work environment, typically consisting of approximately three days in the office and two days remote. You will work alongside multidisciplinary engineering professionals on complex, high-profile projects that require creative problem-solving and close team coordination.

The project portfolio primarily includes healthcare facilities, museums, theme parks, and other specialty developments, providing opportunities to work on technically challenging projects that have a meaningful impact on the communities they serve. The organization emphasizes teamwork,…
