About Us:Meals on Wheels Orange County is the largest nonprofit provider of nutrition and supportive services for at‑risk older adults in Central and North Orange County. Our mission is to combat hunger and loneliness among older adults through nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks, and to support families through day services. We deliver nearly 2 million meals annually to 20,000 at‑risk older adults.
Location:Newport Beach, CA (Oasis Senior Center)
Hours:Part Time/ Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM (25 hours per week)
Hourly Range:$17.50 - $20.50 per hour (Hourly rate will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience).
JOB SUMMARY:This position oversees the Home Delivered Meal Program at a specific site. Responsibilities include receiving meals, packing meals according to route assignment, greeting volunteer drivers, managing volunteer schedules, delivering meals in personal vehicles, recruiting and training volunteers, maintaining records and submitting reports, and performing other job‑related tasks as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Responsible for receiving and packaging home-delivered meals according to the Route Sheets and Packing List provided by Home Delivered Meals administrative staff.
- Assists with recruiting, training, and monitoring volunteer Home Delivered Meal drivers. Keeps thorough records of all volunteer hours and training completed and submits reports to the Volunteer Services department in a timely manner.
- Ensures all food safety procedures are followed, including taking the temperature of received meals, monitoring and documenting fridge and freezer temperatures, packing ice chests and cooler bags with an adequate amount of ice sheets to keep food cold during volunteer delivery routes, instructing volunteers to conduct monthly milk temperature checks, and all other safe food handling procedures, including cleaning of work area.
- Interacts with participants during delivery and reports client‑specific problems to the Supervisor or appropriate Case Manager; reports any client‑related problems of emergency nature immediately; and completes APS reports when needed, as required, as a Mandated Reporter.
- Contact clients directly to inquire about holds or missed meals, coordination of delivery or meal changes, follow up on assessments, or other tasks as directed by the Manager of Case Management.
- Maintains and updates route sheets with delivery directions and specific delivery instructions as new clients are added, clients go on hold, or clients leave the program.
- In the event of a volunteer call‑out or no‑show, coordinates coverage of the route either through contacting additional volunteers, partnering with Case Management staff, or delivering the meals in a personal vehicle.
- Practices safe operating procedures and observes all safety regulations and precautions as prescribed by Community Senior Serv. Operates vehicle in a safe and lawful manner. Provides a safe work environment by communicating problems and suggestions for safe operation.
- Maintain records and information, submit daily communication forms, and prepare accurate and timely reports related to Home Delivered Meals program operations.
- Responsible for the proper handling of meal donations according to Community Senior Serv policy guidelines.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required. Performs other duties and assignments related to this job as deemed necessary and appropriate.
