Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Functions as the clinical resource for patients and staff for ostomy, continence disorders, acute and chronic wounds and skin breakdown and fistulae. Provides direct wound and ostomy care in inpatient and outpatient settings. Provides patient/family teaching and instruction of wound and ostomy management both pre and post operatively. Assists the healthcare team in the evaluation of skin and wound products and equipment, and provides educational programs, in‑services, and bedside teaching for nursing staff.
Stays up‑to‑date with skin‑care practices and shares advances in wound and skin care assessments, evaluations, treatments, and prevention measures.
Assesses all patients with a pressure injury staged at 3 or above and sees patients who have developed hospital‑acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) and meets appropriate reporting requirements. Assesses overall hospital needs and practices to eliminate HAPIs.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
- Bachelor’s of Nursing (BSN) required.
- Minimum of four years of clinical experience required.
- Preferred:
Two years of experience in wound and ostomy.
Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of California – current and in good standing.
Certifications Required- Current BLS certification.
- Must have CWON certification.
- Enterostomal Therapy Department certification.
