Senior Machine Learning Software Engineer

We are searching for a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in ML application development to join a newly formed team working on Generative AI and Foundation Models development for ABAP in Newport Beach. The team is at the forefront of SAP’s cloud transformation, leveraging large language models to accelerate customers’ data and code transformation. You will work closely with data scientists and stakeholders globally to build ML‑based solutions.

• Contribute to the development of internal tools and libraries for LLM development and deployment.
• Develop data pipelines for preprocessing, training, and evaluating language models.
• Build, optimize, and maintain software solutions for automation and data management for training AI/ML models, especially large language models (LLMs).
• Collaborate with data scientists and stakeholders and manage cross‑functional relationships to align infrastructure among teams.

• PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in software development for ML applications.
• Expertise in LLM model training and data pipeline construction, optimization, and automation.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or Tensor Flow.
• Experience with data processing automation for LLM training and evaluation.
• Experience with distributed deep learning training on multi‑GPU systems is a plus.

The ABAP Foundation Model team is pioneering AI innovations within the SAP ABAP ecosystem. It is an integral part of the Generative AI foundation within Business AI  joining the team, you will help shape the future of AI at SAP and drive significant advancements.

The targeted combined annualized compensation range for this position is USD 120,800 – 253,800, inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target. The actual offer will depend on education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, and other factors.
