This position is designated as a CSA. A CSA is an official of the institution with significant responsibility for student and campus activities. A CSA must immediately report any crime to the University Police, who will review, evaluate, and investigate the reported crime. The Student Success Coordinator will support the University’s student success initiatives by providing services and programs targeted at creating and maintaining a supportive learning environment for undergraduate students to improve retention, completion, and post-graduation outcomes.
Responsibilities (Work Tasks)- Assist with creation, implementation, and maintenance of student success orientation programs and support services for all undergraduate students.
- Assist with the instructional component of college transition courses (COLL 140: The Transitional Learner and COLL 150: The Intentional Learner) as needed and within parameters set by the Director or the Vice Provost of Academic Success and Engagement.
- Research, develop, assess, and implement best practices in student success support services and programs for undergraduate students.
- Assist with functions and activities associated with orientation programs for new college freshmen and transfer students to support their transition and academic expectations.
- Provide support and programming for Community Captains and Hampton Captains Programs (pre-admission and transition to college success programs) as needed.
- Maintain a caseload of undergraduate students, conduct individual meetings, and create personal action plans for student success.
- Monitor progress of students identified as at risk and develop and implement intervention plans based on individual needs.
- Maintain "drop in" hours for students needing immediate assistance with student success issues.
- Develop, implement, and conduct workshops and intervention strategies to support undergraduate student success to degree completion.
- Participate in the Division’s “recruit back” program to re-engage students who have stopped out and apply intervention strategies to support degree completion.
- Develop, implement, and assess programs for special undergraduate populations (e.g., first-generation students, second-year students, underrepresented groups) to retain and support degree completion.
- Maintain detailed records of meetings, workshops, events, and outreach activities.
- Stay current on student success literature and best practices; participate in webinars, workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities as available.
- Assist the Director with administration of the College Student Inventory (CSI), Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI), Mid-Year Student Assessment (MYSA), and Second-Year Assessment (SYSA) as needed.
- Assist with marketing for the Center for Student Success, the Tutoring Center, and the Division’s peer mentoring program.
- Assist with daily postings to the Center’s social media sites in compliance with university guidelines and policies.
- Represent the Center at admission-related events (open houses, admitted student days, orientation events) and university-wide events, with responsibilities shared among coordinators, managers, and the director.
- Assist the Director and managers in planning and supporting events such as Signing Day and LAUNCH and other student success initiatives.
