Working Title Visiting Assistant Professor of English Appointment Type Full Time Purpose of Position

The Department of English at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of English, effective August 2026. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with a nominal teaching load of 4-4. The position is renewable for one additional year.

The individual will predominantly teach freshman and sophomore writing seminars to help students succeed within and beyond the university. We seek a candidate with a terminal MA or MFA, or a Doctoral degree in English or a related field, and/or significant teaching experience in composition studies. A background in digital humanities, childhood studies, or linguistics would be an asset, though it is not required.
