Overview

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Dean Surgical Tech program are related to the day-to-day operations, course and faculty scheduling, human resource management, student engagement, and execution of the goals and objectives of the Program. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: participation in strategic planning, situational leadership, goals and objectives formulation and accomplishment, and systematic evaluation of educational outcomes.

The Program Director is responsible for the development, monitoring, supervision, implementation and evaluation of the program and its curriculum; incorporating delivery of both residential and distance education methods; oversight of program admissions criteria, academic progression and graduation of students; human resource responsibilities to include hiring, evaluation, and termination of faculty; and, responsibility for the planning and administration of the program's budget.

The Program Director shall maintain professional competence in their specific discipline through such activities as practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects, and professional writing. Essential functions are fundamental job duties, knowledge, skills and abilities that are necessary to perform the position. For all College Instructor and Staff positions, standards are intended to apply to all educational delivery methods residential, blended and/or distance as feasible.

  • Accountable for all accreditation and regulatory activities and outcomes required for annual reports, self-study reports, etc.
  • Employees' performance reviews and Career Development Plans are conducted according to established RHS guidelines.
  • Systematic Evaluation processes are evident, well-documented, and indicative of improving outcomes or maintenance of high standards.
  • Accountable for program, student, and graduate outcomes for exam pass rates.
  • Accountable for program, student, and graduate outcomes for student retention.
  • Accountable for program, student, and graduate outcomes for program evaluations.
  • Evaluated on activities that support learning, to include instructional design, delivery (both residential and distance methods) , and assessment, course management, and academic advising.
  • Engages in scholarly activities in instructor's area of expertise including discovering, developing, and/or creating new knowledge, disseminating information, and translating information into products or services of value to the college. Participates in non-teaching responsibilities (service activities) that contribute to the achievement of the goals and objectives of the institution and profession.
  • Instructor/Coordinators are evaluated based on activities that support learning, to include instructional design, delivery, and assessment, course management, and academic advising.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelors Degree, Allied Health Profession or Education (Required)
  • Masters Degree, Allied Health Profession, Education or related field obtained within 5 years of hire (Required)
Experience
  • 3-4 years Recent (within last 5 years) clinical experience or teaching in the specified field or a combination of the two prior to hire date (Required)
  • Experience in a clinical educational setting (Preferred)
  • Formal didactic teaching experience (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
  • Certified Surgical Tech (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) (Required)
