The incumbent will manage the E14 propulsion plant machinery and fluid systems group, which is responsible for all mechanical engineering duties associated with multiple submarine platforms. Primary group functions include:
- Submarine propulsion plant Planning Yard
- Construction support for submarines in new construction and fleet support for modernization/maintenance/repair
- Generation of technical repair instructions
- Evaluation of construction deviations
- Development of work deferral requests
- Generation of departures from specification
- Vendor oversight and technical support for machinery procurement
- Technical procedure development
- Support SUBSAFE program and support Steam Plant Cleanliness requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design;
Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have The Following
- Full working knowledge of Fleet Support and VCS procedures and practices
- Substantial understanding of mechanical engineering and design principles and how they apply to shipbuilding
- Demonstrate the ability to manage their team effectively to ensure project completion on time and with appropriate technical rigor applied
- Demonstrate the ability to interface intelligently with EB, trades, suppliers, management and the customer
- Working knowledge of all shipyard operations including material procurement, structural fabrication, component fabrication and assembly and final outfitting, and the relationship between the four
- Communicate clearly and effectively and demonstrate strong technical writing skills
