What your job will be like

This position is part of a cross functional team dedicated to supporting the spectrometers and other experimental equipment in Halls A and

C. Equipment includes, but is not limited to: magnet power supplies, instrumentation, and controls; cryogenics instrumentation and controls; particle detector supporting electronics; and spectrometer motion. This position will be expected to work on control systems and power supplies including troubleshooting and repair, making updates to control software, and providing on-call support during the experimental run. This position will also be responsible for learning how to operate the cryogenics system in hall C and assisting SME with cryogenics operations.

Candidates for this position should have a working knowledge of basic electronics, familiarity with computers and basic programs such as MS Office, strong troubleshooting skills, and ability to think critically. Candidate will preferably have some knowledge of cryogenics or fluid dynamics, experience with PLCs/HMIs, and/or experience programming in C/C++/Python. Electronics knowledge, troubleshooting skills, and understanding of pressure-flow relationship will be tested during the interview.

In

this role you will
  • Operate cryogenic system, to include understanding of cryogenic concepts, P&I diagrams, valve controls, and instrumentation.
  • Assist in installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various hall A and C control systems and power supplies.
  • Integrate new controls and instrumentation into existing control system as needed.
  • Coordinate as needed with other Spectrometer Support Group staff and other groups at the lab to achieve goals.
Qualifications we require

Education

  • Bachelor s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics or related field
  • Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience.

Experience

  • 4 or more years relevant work experience

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of basis electronics, and familiarity with computers and basic programs
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and the ability to think critically
Qualifications we prefer
  • 2 or more years Working with PLCs/HMIs or troubleshooting electronics
  • 2 or more years Cryogenics or other fluid systems

  • Working Knowledge of cryogenics or fluid dynamics
  • Experience with PLCs/HMIs and or experience programming in C/C++/Python
